Baptism at St Peter'sFor 2000 years now baptism has been the sign and means of entry into the church family.

At St. Peter’s we baptise infants, children and adults, with either the candidates themselves or their parents and godparents making significant promises. These include a commitment to Christ and His church and a desire to learn more about him. Such things cannot be done without the support of the church family.

These promises should not be taken lightly or without integrity.

To be baptised is to make a commitment to the life of the church, to attend regularly and be a part of what we do. In the case of infant baptism the commitment is on the part of the parents and godparents.

If parents, especially of young children, feel they themselves cannot make this commitment and say the promises with integrity, or if they would like their children to choose to be baptised when they are older, then we encourage a service of Thanksgiving rather than Baptism.

A thanksgiving service is a celebration of the birth and presence of a child and it’s a time when we ask for God’s blessing upon them.

Nick, the Vicar is always very happy to talk to anyone who is unsure about the two options, please do make contact at any time.
